Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone therapy has been part of the healing practices of many of the
world’s cultures including Asian cultures and Native American cultures, for
thousands of years. Healing stone massage was used to relieve physical
discomfort and to achieve spiritual balancing.
Stone Massage Therapy came from the healers using rocks from the river beds
and warming them either in hot coals or hot water. By placing the hot stones
on cloth on the body and arranging them along the energy centres of the body,
a healing process would occur.
The hot stones have a tendency to relax the
muscles and “draw out” muscle pain and discomfort. The hot stones seem to
connect the flow or paths of energy together in order to rebalance the
physical body, emotional mind and soaring spirit as one. As the stones cool
the healer would replace them with hot stones again. The feet are extremely
energy sensitive and are also stimulated in Hot Stone Massage.
Like massage therapy, Hot Stone Massage moves blood and lymph allowing the
body to remove waste in a more sufficient manner. The addition of hot and
cold brings blood to the surface (heat} or moves blood away (cold. Healing
stone massage therapy techniques will leave you feeling mentally and
physically refreshed and relaxed.
The stones come in varying shapes and sizes and serve different purposes
from larger stones which are placed on various parts of the body, to
slightly smaller stones which are used in conjunction with massage
techniques to very small coined-sized stones that are lightly wedged between
the toes or placed in the hands, depending on the areas to be treated
